Aroma and flavor notes included: relatively high-quality, balanced dark chocolate, subtle peanut/peanut butter, and faint fruit (authentic fruit (peach, berry), fruity cereal).

Texture: creamy chocolate coating with a slightly thicker/stiffer peanut butter filling, topped with crunchy quinoa pieces.

I enjoyed this updated take on classic* peanut butter cups; the flavorful and balanced chocolate used; the textural blend of creamy chocolate, peanut butter and crunchy quinoa; and the thoughtful list of quality and organic ingredients.

The company, founded by Justin Gold,  got its start with jars of natural nut butters sold at the Boulder Farmers Market, and eventually grew to incorporate chocolate as well.

Justin's organic, versions of chocolate covered nut butter cups have been a delicious and welcome addition for those wanting a healthier version of this tried and true confection. Today's dark chocolate cashew butter filled cups were no exception.

Welcome to Day #3 of Chocolate and Peanuts Theme Week.

True confession: I had a childhood love affair with chocolate peanut butter cups. And I still like them a lot. However, making my own became more appealing as I grew older, and as I started reading ingredient labels. Fortunately, there were others who felt the same way.

Today's Organic Mini Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups from Justin's (Boulder, CO) were a yummy, adult version of a childhood milk chocolate classic.

Each individually-wrapped little dark chocolate cup was filled with authentic tasting peanut butter; and the packaging and size made them a bit more shareable and transportable than their full-sized counterparts. (Justin's also makes full-sized dark and milk chocolate peanut butter cups—and full-sized almond butter and cashew butter cups as well.)

And, yes, there really is a "Justin" behind Justin's. Founder Justin Gold got his start by developing his own nut butters, and then started to sell these at the Boulder Farmers' Market. Nut butters led to nut butter cups...And the rest, as they say, is history. Justin's products can now be found far and wide in the U.S.

These gluten free peanut butter cups contained peanuts and soy.

Today I enjoyed packets of Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter Blend (made with roasted hazelnuts and almonds)—and Justin's Classic Almond Butter— on thin slices* of toasted white bread from Arise Gluten Free Bakery (Arcata, CA).

Justin Gold founded Justin's (Boulder, CO), a successful nut butter business when he moved west; and over time expanded the number of offerings to include today's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter Blend in jar and packet form—as well as other nut butter snack items.

Made without artificial flavor or preservatives or extra sugar and salt (thank you), this butter/spread was gluten free and packed with natural nut (roasted hazelnuts and almonds) and chocolate flavor.

*Those used to eating gluten-free bread may appreciate how thinly sliced gluten-free (or conventional) breads can be a crumbly challenge. Not so here. This was good bread.
