Welcome to Day #4 of Chocolate (and) Surprise Theme Week. On the drive back from a hike in the hills of Crockett and Port Costa (Contra Costa County, CA) this afternoon, I stopped for an early dinner and chocolate dessert at a restaurant called The Dead Fish.

Surprise #1 - Despite the name, The Dead Fish is a very nice restaurant with wonderful views of the Carquinez Strait and Carquinez bridge. If it's warm enough, I recommend the patio seating, with heat lamps, where you can watch ships coming and going far below -- preferably at sunset.

Their Chocolate Bomb dessert sounded promising. I can't eat wheat/flour, so I asked if this had any crust or wheat flour in it. No, just (frozen) chocolate mousse, and some chocolate sauce and whipped cream I was told. It did look good. So, I ordered it.

Surprise #2: Surprise! The filling was dark chocolate cake; oops. So much for being wheat-free. This is a common occurrence for folks like me that try to eat out, gluten-free. I made a rare exception this time and ate this dessert anyway, surprise cake filling and all. Again, it was good...
