Chocolats du CaliBressan - Kentucky Bourbon bonbon - July 24, 2015

Chocolate of the Day:

Chocolats du CaliBressan
Kentucky Bourbon bonbon
Good ++
Weight: .4 oz. (11.32 g.) (estimate) for 1 piece
Calories: 60 calories (estimate) for 1 piece
Cost: $1.80 for 1 bonbon
Purchased from: Chocolats du CaliBressan, Santa Barbara, CA

Today was Day #3 of Chocolate and Santa Barbara Theme Week.

Today's rectangular Kentucky Bourbon bonbon from Chocolats du CaliBressan (Santa Barbara, CA) was decorated with a gold, red and light blue stencil pattern -- with tiny graphic bursts and little "BAM" exclamations -- across the top. This "monthly special" chocolate for July was a good choice for celebrating Bastille Day, the 4th of July, or the summer in general.

Inside this bonbon, a chocolate ganache contained a tantalizing hint of Kentucky Bourbon that yielded a glowing warmth.

Today was the last day for featured chocolates from Chocolats du CaliBressan, but rest assured there will be more in the future, including the company's signature Limoncello truffle, and tasty "Buddha Beauty" salt caramel, and the company's Bisous bonbon (red lips filled with a tangerine liqueur infused ganache).

Creme Brulee Cart - Kentucky + Chocolate - July 17, 2014

Chocolate of the Day:

The Creme Brulee Cart
Kentucky + Chocolate
Good ++ - Very Good
Weight: 1 serving
Calories: 500 calories (estimate)
Cost: $5.25
Purchased from: The Creme Brulee Cart, San Francisco, CA

Today was Day #6 of Chocolate Surprise Theme Week.

After reviewing a few ancient items in my Chocolate Vault, and deeming them unsuitable, I took a walk through the Mission District of San Francisco to hunt for a chocolate I hadn't had yet. After walking in a methodical grid pattern, I was pleasantly surprised to discover The Creme Brulee Cart (storefront -- I had previously seen only their food truck).

They had an array of creamy brulee possibilities. I ordered up a "Kentucky" creme brulee (with a sugary top torched to perfection). This vanilla creme brulee base was enhanced with bourbon butterscotch, chopped candied pecans, and added chocolate sauce. Very tasty.

Chocolate of the Day:

1/5 bar
Mink Chocolates
"Open in Case of Emergency" bar
Good - Good+
Weight: .352 oz. (10 g.) / 1.76 oz. (50 g.) total bar
Calories: 46 calories
Cost: $7.00 (approx.)
Purchased from: Mink Chocolates, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

OK, it was not a true emergency. But, it was Day #6 of Chocolate and Whisk(e)y Theme Week.

So I broke open this "Open in Case of Emergency" dark (70% cacao) bar -- made with fresh mint and Kentucky Bourbon whiskey -- from Mink Chocolates (Vancouver, B.C., Canada).

I ordered a whole library of Mink bars awhile back after visiting their store in Vancouver (a few blocks up from the Convention Center). I've been gradually sampling these fun bars, in small chocolate sips. I may have to reorder the last few volumes in the cleverly titled set, as it's been a few months -- and, unlike a good hardcover book, fresh or filled chocolates are more perishable.
