Today was Day #2 of Chocolate and Almonds Theme Week.

Toblerone Swiss Milk Chocolate bars come in several flavors, including today's big Toblerone bar with the big (or at least long) name: "Swiss Milk Chocolate with Salted Caramelized Almonds and Honey and Almond Nougat" (bar).

The unique triangular shape of the Toblerone bar was developed in Berne, Switzerland, more than 100 years ago. The bar's resemblance to mountain peaks reminded me of the Swiss Alps when I was younger.

Note: The Toblerone brand is part of Kraft Foods.

Today was Day #2 of Chocolate and Orange Theme Week.

 This milk chocolate and orange trio from Terry's Chocolate Orange (Kraft Foods UK) consisted of three different, individually-wrapped, chocolates in the shape of orange slices. (The company's "Segsation" package contained 5 different flavors.)

Each slice contained a similar, smooth base of milk chocolate -- flavored with natural-tasting, real orange oil.

The Milk Crispy flavor also contained small pieces of crispy rice. And the third piece was a blend of dark chocolate and milk chocolate.


In addition to being stamped with a small Terry's logo on what would be the "peel" surface, each segment was etched with a short, cheery message: Big kiss, Do the twist!, and the helpful Chill out.

Today was Day #3 of Chocolate and Toffee Theme Week; and today's package of Terry's Chocolate Orange "Segsations" (owned by Kraft Foods) came in 5 different, individually-wrapped flavors.

This evening, I tried the Toffee Crunch flavor. Each citrus segment-shaped piece was made of sweet, milk chocolate and crunchy toffee bits, infused with lovely orange flavor.

Too Much Chocolate?
Earlier today, I was a judge in a chocolate awards tasting. Over one hundred chocolates is probably too many chocolates to taste in one day, especially given the range of quality involved. Still, it was great to participate; and it was fun to compare notes with others. There are always new things to learn when it comes to chocolate.

There were no toffees to taste in this competition, so I topped off the day's tasting with this additional piece of chocolate when I got home. With all this theobromine* in my system, it will be interesting to see if I can sleep at all tonight.

*Chocolate contains theobromine, a stimulant that is similar to, but not the same as caffeine.

Today was Day #2 of Chocolate and Cheese Theme Week. Several of the chocolates selected for this theme week were related to cream cheese. Of all the cheeses, this one may blend the most naturally with chocolate -- whether in cheesecakes, cheesecake brownies, refrigerated pies, parfaits, spreads or other desserts.

Philadelphia is a well-known cream cheese brand in the U.S. Part of Kraft Foods (Northfield, IL), the Philadelphia brand has been extended to include several flavored cream cheese spreads over the years. Today's "Snack Delights" cream cheese spreads were packaged in small recloseable plastic tubs and could be used as dips as well.

Today's two flavors I sampled, Milk Chocolate and Cinnamon*, were also sweet enough to serve as cream cheese frosting for cakes, banana bread, or cupcakes. This could be wonderful news, or not, depending on your preference for sugar.

I assembled a fruit, nut and snack plate (strawberries, blueberries, almonds, gluten free pretzels and gingerbread cookies) to eat with these spreads. I enjoyed the white chocolate cinnamon spread as much as the milk chocolate cream cheese with these snack items.

*Note: I do not normally "count" or feature white chocolate items on ChocolateBanquet.com; however, the cinnamon white chocolate cream cheese did pair nicely with the snacks and with its milk chocolate sibling.

Best laid plans often go awry. After eating a different chocolate every day for six years, I've learned to be adaptable and to have a sense of humor about the unexpected. I had planned that today would be Day #1 of Crunchy Chocolate Week. I opened a pouch of Chocolate Strawberry Crunch -- a dehydrated dessert from Mountain House (a division of Oregon Freeze Dry, Inc. - based in Albany, OR).

This pouch contained three smaller packets -- one silver envelope of crunchy toffee bits, and two sealed, white packets filled with freeze dried strawberry pieces -- instead of one packet of strawberry bits, and one packet of chocolate pudding mix. Gasp. No chocolate.

No problem. I quickly called in a chocolate pudding stunt double. A small container of Jell-O Double Chocolate Pie flavor snack filled in for the missing pudding. And I topped this cup of creamy chocolate dessert with the crunchy strawberry and toffee bits. Voila. Crunchy chocolate.
