Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream

Calories: 105 calories in 1/4 cup serving

Welcome to Day #7 of Chocolate and Mint Theme Week.

Fond childhood summer memories often include trips to an ice cream store, such as Baskin-Robbins (founded in Southern California, now based in Canton, MA).

Baskin-Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip is one of the company's top selling flavors.* Mint ice cream with semi-sweet chocolate chips is a great summer (or anytime) flavor.

Cream was the #1 ingredient. The rest of the ingredients were more predictable for traditional mass-produced ice creams: sugar, corn syrup, semi-sweet chocolate chips, natural flavor, cellulose gum, mono and diglycerides...guar gum, carrageenan, polysorbate 80, and artificial colors (blue 1, yellow 5).

*The company website listed Mint Chocolate Chip, after Vanilla and Chocolate, as the first three in a short list of top selling flavors.

Celebrating 10 Years of Chocolate with 10 Chocolates

Chocolate Banquet - 10-year Anniversary Day
September 11, 2016

How did I spend my 10th Anniversary of eating a different chocolate every day?

I enjoyed a walk and ate 10 chocolates today. It was also my birthday, so sweets were on the menu.

I started the day with my Chocolate(s) of the Day: two very fine, single origin dark bars from Ecuador, made by Arete Fine Chocolate (Milpitas, CA).

Then I enjoyed tastes of four different ice creams with chocolate, including a cup of chocolate chip ice cream at Baskin Robbins. (The company had sent me a coupon for a free ice cream for my birthday.)

I also enjoyed a Hazelnut truffle and a Cognac truffle from XOX Truffles (San Francisco, CA), and a Party truffle from Z. Cioccolato (San Francisco, CA).

Last but not least, I enjoyed a Gray Sea Salt Agave Caramel (in Milk Chocolate) from Amella Caramels (not pictured here).

The gluten-free caramels were part of a gift from Elana Turchon and Joy Lowrie at SweetE Organic (Mill Valley, CA) to celebrate Chocolate Banquet's 10-year anniversary.

The caramels were cleverly tucked into a trophy with a gold, star-shaped sparkler.

Thank you to all who helped celebrate this occasion!

Baskin-Robbins - Jamoca ice cream bars - Sept. 2, 2014

Chocolate of the Day:

Baskin-Robbins
Jamoca ice cream bars
Good
Weight: 3 fl. oz. (89 mL) / 9 fl. oz. (266 mL) in total box
Calories: 200 calories in 1 bar
Cost: $ (lost information)
Purchased from: Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, Palo Alto, CA

Today was Day #5 of Chocolate and Coffee Theme Week.

Leaves may be turning red, and kids may be back in school, but we're a long way from brisk fall weather. It was another hot day this morning. So, I reached into the freezer and chose a Jamoca ice cream bar -- made with "Jamoca Ice Cream Dipped in Dark Chocolate Flavored Coating" -- from Baskin-Robbins (Canton, MA).

It was like having a frozen latte with a little dark chocolate flavor whirled in for good measure -- a sweet, cool combination for very warm weather.

Baskin-Robbins, a large national ice cream store chain, is part of the Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc. The ice cream-centered company has continued to bring out new flavors and products, even as the local ice cream shops maintain a timeless quality imbued with childhood memories for many of us. I may be less thrilled with the festively neon colors and the ice cream cakes than I once was; but I still enjoy seeing the bright pink, white and navy blue Baskin-Robbins logo when I pass by my local store(s).

ChocolateBet: July 21, 2011

Chocolate of the Day:

1 serving
Baskin Robbins
1.) Cherries Jubilee - Good +
2.) Jamoca Almond Fudge - Good +
Weight: 4 oz. (1/2 cup)/ 1 pint of each flavor
Calories: 250 calories (estimate)
Cost: $ not available
Purchased from: Baskin Robbins, in Palo Alto, CA

Today was Day #2 of Chocolate and Cherries Theme Week. I made a miniature parait/ice cream sundae that incorporated two Baskin Robbins Classic Flavors: 1.) Cherries Jubilee, and 2.) Jamoca Almond Fudge.  The small glass cup I used was filled to overflowing after I added whipped cream and a cherry. These ice cream flavors were sweet and refreshing, but the hand-packed pints had also been, to be fair, sitting in my freezer for a few weeks, which may have dulled the flavors and textures a bit.
