Today was spent taking pictures (and keeping an eye out for local chocolates), while attending events, researching art and technology in the Caribbean, and taking a ferry ride across a harbor. No dolphins were spotted -- except the milk chocolate variety on our lunch table after the ferry ride.

Once again, airport shops proved to be a good source of local chocolates. Los Cinco Soles offered a nice selection of bars and other chocolate products in the Cancun airport. I enjoyed trying the Kaokao 72% bar. According to the label, the company is based in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Today was sweltering, but not too hot for a taste of homemade hot chocolate at this resort in Mexico. This hot chocolate, served in ceramic bowls/mugs, was made from scratch with very hot water, and also contained cinnamon and milk.

I was hoping to try more chocolates from Mexico on this trip. After visiting some Mayan ruins today, so near the birthplace of chocolate, I couldn't help but think there must be more local cacao products, but the shops I visited carried primarily chocolates from the U.S.

I enjoy hunting for chocolates whenever I travel. What I find may be quite everyday to locals, but exotic to me. Today after touring the Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama, I enjoyed a Blue Bell Great Divide frozen dessert bar (chocolate and vanilla), in the company of three other women, from Texas, who were on the house and garden tour. Blue Bell is a Texas company, and it was once difficult to find Blue Bell ice cream and dessert products outside of Texas.

Later in the day, I stopped at a pecan stand to try some boiled peanuts. They did not have any chocolate and nut products there, but we had fun discussing what chocolate covered boiled peanuts might look like.
