Welcome to Day #3 of Chocolate and Mint Theme Week.

Today's Mint Chocolate Chunk gelato was created by Gelato Fiasco (Brunswick, ME).

This morning's scoop of mint frozen goodness with tiny bursts of chocolate, evoked memories of slowly eating mint chocolate chip ice cream on a hot summer day under blue skies.

Good thing. This week in California our skies are being made thick and "overcast" by wildfire smoke. May all of you out there be blessed with clean air, sunshine and good friends to share chocolate and other good memories.

Welcome to Day #4 of Chocolate and Honey Theme Week.

This morning's Deep Maine Woods Chocolate Gelato Smoky Caramel Honeycomb Candy from Gelato Fiasco (Brunswick, ME) was sweet, chocolatey and rich, but, oddly, wasn't as objectionably sweet as it might have been. Higher-quality ingredients (deeper chocolate, bits of dark chocolate, smoky caramel, other flavors) helped balance the sweetness.

Is there any honey in your honeycomb candy? If not, you can always add some, drizzled over the top...And, speaking of over the top...I'd say this gelato might be for breakfast. But, what the heck, that's the way we live sometimes.

This was enjoyed in the early morning deep woods of my backyard. I could almost smell the wood smoke coming from a stone fireplace. I say "almost," because, sadly, fireplaces are discouraged (for air quality reasons) in our urban neighborhood. But, one can imagine.

Have a honey of a day.

Welcome to Day #6 of Chocolate and Ice Cream Theme Week.

Today's frozen treat was a bowl of Triple Chocolate Gelato from Gusto Bello Cafe (distributed by Topco Associates LLC, Elk Grove Village, IL).

This gelato was creamy smooth and chocolatey, and lighter (less dense, more fluffy) than ice cream. At only 140 calories per 1/2 cup it also contained far fewer calories than most ice creams.

Welcome to Day #5 of Chocolate and Ice Cream Theme Week.

Today's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup ice cream from Gelato Fiasco (Brunswick, ME) was constructed with chopped peanut butter cups, and a swirl of peanut butter in chocolate gelato.

Gelato Fiasco founders, Josh and Bruno, set out to create a better, Italian-inspired gelato in the U.S., and they've succeeded.

My only quibble, I wish I could find more ice creams and gelatos without emulsifiers or vegetable gums; but they are very hard to find.
