Welcome to Day #3 of Chocolate & Rice Theme Week.
Today's Plain Oakmilk Chocolate 43% (cacao solids) bar from Otherly was a product of Scotland. (Queensferry, UK).
Aroma and flavor notes for this generously-sized chocolate bar included: relatively sweet and smooth (but also convincingly dark) chocolate; faint oat/rice porridge; and warm, sweet vanilla.
Texture: The texture was also relatively smooth. This chocolate broke with a snap but had a slightly different melt and texture than pure chocolate -- from the oat and rice powders (that were fully incorporated into the chocolate).
This interesting and appealing oat and rice "milk" bar was sweet without being overly so. That said, I felt like I wanted to add salted butter to this chocolate. (Tasting this must have triggered a childhood oatmeal memory.) Salt can also help balance out sweetness. A handful of nuts roasted in olive oil and sea salt paired nicely with this bar.
Using 100% oat powder for the "milk" component might have tasted too oat-y. It seemed like the blend of oat and rice powder worked fairly well together.
