Welcome to Day #12 of Chocolate, Pumpkin and Warm Fall Spices Theme Week.

Today's Chocolate Pecan Pie Pralines were created by SOMA chocolatemaker (Toronto, ON, Canada).

Hope everyone in Canada enjoyed their Thanksgiving (Oct. 9th) this year. Thanksgiving in the U.S. is yet to come; but it's not too early for pumpkin spiced-items, pecan pie and pumpkin pie.

SOMA's decadent Chocolate Pecan Pie Pralines were enjoyed with a slice of pumpkin pie from Raised Gluten Free (Arcata, CA).

Aroma notes for these coated oval- and pearl-shaped confections included: caramel, faint rich cocoa, and very faint vanilla.

A buttery, outer caramel chocolate coating surrounded slightly sweet and crunchy pecan pieces.

Flavor notes for each piece included: caramel, subtle chocolate (rich cocoa), hints of butter, brown sugar and milk, and naturally sweet pecans--all magically rolled into one bite.

The flavors were authentic and well balanced, and these pralines tumbled in caramel chocolate were sweet, but not overly so.

Ingredients: Pecans, Organic Cane Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Milk Powder, Cacao Nibs, Egg Whites, Salt, Natural Vanilla.

Allergen-related information: (Contains milk, egg, pecans.) "May contain traces of peanuts."

Welcome to Day #4 of Chocolate and Thankful Theme Week.

Today's Chocolate Pecan Pie In-A-Jar, from The Great Saba Saba River Pecan Company Inc. (Saba Saba, TX), is the kind of ingredient that begs to be experimented with.

This caramel-y and chocolate-y pecan pie filling was chocked full of pecans—the first thing I saw when I opened the large, screw-top glass jar.

I used this pecan pie filling two ways today, to create: 1.) a single serving of gluten-free chocolate pecan dessert, and 2.) a small chocolate pecan pie parfait with vanilla ice cream. Both hot and cold dessert results were good. And if you like nuts, topping these with a few more pecans may even be in order.

I also enjoyed learning more about the Saba Saba River, Texas, and pecans today. (The Great Saba Saba River Pecan Co. offers pecans, pecan preserves, toppings, candies, and other items from their 10,000 orchard of pecan trees that grow near the river in the Hill Country of Central Texas.)

This is why I love writing about a new chocolate every day on ChocolateBanquet.com. I am thankful that I get to learn something new every day.

ChocolateBet: January 15, 2009

Chocolate of the Day:
1 package
Devil in an Apron
Pecan Pie ("Georgian pecans", Tennessee bourbon, Michel Cluizel 72% dark chocolate coating)
Yum. This is sin in a little red box.
Wt.: 2.3 oz. (70 grams)
Calories: 345 calories (estim.)
Cost: $4.99 (and worth every penny I might add)
Purchased from: Whole Foods, in Los Altos, CA

Where to start? Did roadside wires start bending when the Devil's delivery truck passed by, on its way to delivering these handmade chocolates to Whole Foods? I like dark chocolate, nuts, and alcohol flavorings. This cross between pecan pie filling and a high-end dark chocolate bar is the most enjoyable combination of these elements I've found yet. I wish these folks the best and look forward to trying their other flavors.
