In 2006, my daughter bet I couldn't eat a different chocolate each day for a year. I enjoyed that year so much that, after 19+ years, I'm still eating a different chocolate every day. Happily, even after 7,100+ chocolates, there are still many more to try. Thank you to chocolate makers and cocoa farmers for making this global adventure possible.

ChocolateBet: January 9, 2007
Today I managed to eat half of a fairly large Ghirardelli Chocolate - Toffee Interlude (dark chocolate) bar. (3.5 oz./100g size). It was very good.

I bought some chocolates in a discount store in Half Moon Bay yesterday on my drive up the coast yesterday. I'm opening a box of Kirkland Signature Belgian Chocolates - which I'll likely be working on for a few days. Today's (two) chocolates were: dark chocolate with hazelnut and dark chocolate with coffee. They were very good.

Chocolate of the Day:
Lake Champlain Chocolates
Dark Spicy Aztec bar
Very Good - Yum
Weight: 1.25 oz. (35 g.) in 1 bar
Calories: 200 calories in 1 bar
Cost: $2.49 for 1 bar
Purchased from: Z. Cioccolatos, San Francisco, CA
Today I tried a Dark Spicy Aztec all natural chocolate bar from Lake Champlain Chocolates (Burlington, VT). It was in the Very Good - Yum range. This bar contains pumpkin seeds, cayenne and cinnamon - a very nice blend of flavor and texture.
I also enjoyed a Sunday drive along the coast. I watched surfers in the Pacific Ocean near Half Moon Bay, and watched the sunset - with the sun becoming wobbly and distorted like molten orange glass before slipping down into the distant waves. There are no two sunsets that are the same. And even a "bad" sunset beats not seeing one at all...
And pretty much the same can be said for chocolates I've tried so far. Chocolate has even seeped into my social life, and I find myself sharing chocolates wherever I go.
Later in the evening, I left some Almond Roca candy for mom at her long-term care facility. She had asked my sister for some apparently when she was visiting earlier. By the time I got there she was asleep, so I left it on the table to for her. I'm sure she'll get other takers if she can't finish it.

Chocolate of the Day:
1 bar
Astor Chocolate
Kahlua And Cream Belgian Milk Chocolate bar
Weight: 2 oz. (57 grams) in 1 bar
Calories: 300 calories in 1 bar
Cost: $2.99 for 1 bar
Purchased from: Z. Cioccolatos, in San Francisco, CA
Today's chocolate was Astor Chocolate's Kahlua and Cream Belgian Milk Chocolate bar. It was good.
I ate this bar and enjoyed spending time with my daughter and family members, while visiting my mom in a long-term care facility. Mom is getting a few boxes of chocolate from visitors here, but she can't eat much. She is still very thin from prolonged hospital stay and illness. But a small bit of chocolate now and then seems to be a good thing.

Today, and this evening, was another day of beautiful winter light. I had a take-out dinner of wonderful lentil soup, at Cafe Divine in San Francisco, and enjoyed looking at some beautiful golden light coming through the windows while I was trying to write something. How beautiful the San Francisco skyline can look at night with simple, elegant shades of black and crystalline gold lights
In addition to watching for light and color, and visiting with friends and eating chocolate, humor is also a good weapon against gloomy winter months. Today I was able to mix chocolate and humor. I had a Bloomsberry & Co. "Magic Fairy Chocolate - Poof and it's all gone..." It was quite good for milk chocolate. The Bloomsberry packaging is great, and very funny.

Chocolate of the Day:
Target
Choxie
Coconut Almonds Truffle bar
Good
Weight: 2.5 oz. (70 g.) in 1 bar
Target department stores sell their own line of Choxie chocolate. Today I tried their 2.5 oz. (70 g) dark coconut almond truffle bar. It was good.
I tend to get the blahs and lose some energy in the winter months. I'm wondering whether eating chocolate every day will help. Hmmm. I wonder. In addition to today's chocolate, I will look for other bright spots. I enjoyed seeing some vivid gold and green leaves on the sidewalk at work while walking into the building in the morning. It's nice to see some spots of color in the gray months. There was also a nice silver/gold quality to the light on the freeways this morning. Winter light can be beautiful too.

Lake Champlain Chocolates
Milk Sea Salt and Almonds bar
Very Good
Weight: 1.25 oz. (35 g.) in 1 bar

Cost: $2.49 for 1 bar
Purchased from: Z. Cioccolato's, in North Beach, San Francisco, CA
Today was the first day back at work after the holiday week break. Because the whole company got the week off, it meant less of a pile-up of "to do" items, and email messages that needed to be responded to, which was great. So, the basic/most important tasks got tackled, and I was able to leave for home in the evening without staying very late.
After work, I enjoyed today's organic chocolate bar from Lake Champlain Chocolates (Burlington, VT). I tried the company's Milk Sea Salt and Almonds bar, made with 38% cocoa content milk chocolate.
