Welcome to Day #4 of Cadbury Chocolate Theme Week.

Today's Cadbury chocolates were individually-wrapped Dairy Milk English Toffee miniature "bars" (from Mondelez International/U.K.), distributed by The Hershey Company (Hershey, PA).

These two-square rectangles of milk chocolate, packaged for portability and convenience, contained a relatively low percent of cocoa solids. However, the bits of English toffee (with almonds and salt) embedded in the chocolate were rich enough to lift the tasting experience.

Today was Day #4 of Chocolate and Almond Theme Week.

One way to satisfy an almond and chocolate craving (and there are many I'm finding this week), is to look for English Toffee with almond pieces embedded in a sweet, chewy-crunchy toffee center.

Today's package of 6 diminutive squares of dark chocolate enveloped almond toffee from Cary's of Oregon (Grants Pass, OR) were just the right size for sharing or a snack.

Cary's of Oregon (Grants Pass, OR) makes several flavored English-style toffees. Today, Day #7 of Chocolate and Espresso Theme Week, I tasted Cary's dark chocolate espresso flavor.

The toffee was shaped into bite-sized pieces of crunchy, buttery English toffee (made with real butter and pure vanilla) and almond bits. These hearty square nuggets were enveloped in dark chocolate, and drizzled with ground coffee.

I liked the bite-sized pieces. Great for sharing with others and packaging for snacks. And I appreciated the higher-quality ingredients.

My only quibble: the tagline on the package that described the English toffee: "unique soft crunch recipe." I found biting down on these chunky little squares a bit tough. The cracking crunch was not quite ringing-in-your-ears rattling, but close to it. However, given a choice, I'd prefer a heartier crunch over a sticky, grab-your-fillings texture.

Amy's new Crunchy English Toffee with Almonds in Dark Chocolate bar was part of a new line of Andy's Candy bars. (According to the label, the name was a tribute to Amy's father, Andy.) The package contained two smaller bars or pieces, making it easy to share -- assuming you share chocolate.

The dark chocolate coated bar(s) were filled with a thick section of crunchy toffee with small bits of almond. It was good, and crunchy as advertised, although a little sweeter than what I prefer these days. It will be just right for someone with a sweet tooth who enjoys toffee or caramel.

I like chocolate, ice cream, and Heath bars....However, I wasn't quite in the mood for an ice cream bar for breakfast, in January. It's a "hardship" I endured as part of this silly chocolate bet I made more than three years ago. And then I bundled up to go out into the California winter. I won't be running into any polar bears (see Klondike logo) where I'm hiking today, but I look almost as ridiculous as one with all the layers I'm wearing. I'm more likely to see palm trees than snow and ice.
