Chocolate of the Day:
Raw Indulgence Ltd.
Raw Revolution - Chocolate Raspberry Truffle bar
Good ++
Weight: 1.8 oz. (51 g.) in 1 bar
Calories: 220 calories in 1 bar
Cost: $1.79 (sale price) for 1 bar
Purchased from: Safeway, Palo Alto, CA
Today was Day #7 of Chocolate and Health Theme Week.
This Raw Revolution Chocolate Raspberry Truffle bar was pleasantly moist, chewy and rich, with a hint of natural tasting raspberry (organic raspberry powder).
Unlike some other pressed fruit and nut bars, this bar from Raw Indulgence Ltd. (Hawthorne, NY) listed cashew nuts and sunflower seeds first on the ingredients list. Why does that matter? Some bars are very dried fruit or date-forward, making them too sweet for me.
It's a trade-off. Dates, agave syrup and dried fruits can provide moistness and sweet flavor. However, I'm a fan of the nuts and seeds first philosophy, and I thought this bar was sweet, but well balanced.
Agave syrup and dates were included in this bar, but were a bit further down on the ingredients list. (Sugars in this bar were 13 g.; Total Carbohydrates were 23 g.)
Dialing down the sugar is a taste preference for me. However, diabetics and those who are watching their blood sugar levels may also appreciate formulations with less dried fruit for health reasons. It's great that labeling on bars today contain good information for all of us who care about our health.
This Raw Revolution bar contained Omega 3 and 6; 5 grams of fiber; 7 grams of protein; was "All Organic, Gluten-free, Non GMO, Kosher and Vegetarian."
