Today was Day #3 of Chocolate and Cinnamon Theme Week.
The first chocolate beverages and edible offerings were created in Central and South America -- the birthplace of cacao. And, some of the first flavor additions included spicy items, including chilies and spices similar to allspice and cinnamon, and sweet ingredients, such as honey.
Today's Dark Chocolate Chili Cinnamon 70% cacao bar, part of a multi-bar tasting flight from Trader Joe's (Monrovia, CA), evoked these early Mayan blends, with a touch of warmth and spice. (I also tried pairing shards of this dark bar with some peanut butter ice cream with cinnamon. It worked.)
